As I embark on my final year of studies, I’ve taken on an exciting new role: tutoring the module DATA6222. This intermediate-level database SQL course is a practical subject that involves creating databases and manipulating data within them. It’s a perfect opportunity to test my skills and see if I can effectively explain what I know to others. More importantly, it allows me to give back the value I’ve received throughout my academic journey.
Testing My Skills and Building Confidence
Tutoring has been a revealing experience. Initially, I felt a sense of apprehension, thinking, “Do I know enough?” However, I quickly realized that while I may not have all the answers, I can still help students relate to the material and gain a deeper understanding. Confidence in this field is crucial. If I show up scared, unsure, and unprepared, it translates to the students. By presenting myself confidently, I can create a more positive and productive learning environment.
Balancing Responsibilities and Focusing on Growth
Being a third-year student comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to managing workload. Tutoring has taught me the importance of respecting my program and focusing on my personal and academic growth. I’ve learned that I can’t compare myself to others because everyone’s journey is different. My time, program, and life are unique, and I need to prioritize my responsibilities accordingly.
Conclusion
I am looking forward to the journey I have decided to embark on and hopefully, I will learn even more along the way. The challenges and rewards of tutoring are just beginning, and I am eager to see where this path leads.
